Our mission with this campaign is very
simple. We accept donated books & DVD's thru our stores that others in
the community want to send to troops deployed all over the world. In late
September or October, Soldier's Angels, a global organization that ships care
packages to American troops everywhere, comes to Bossier City with a large
truck. COSST (City of Shreveport Swim Team) usually helps us load this
truck with the massive donations we collect during the year. They return
to thier large warehouse in San Antonio, TX, where the books & DVD's are
packed a few at a time into thier care packages, and then shipped out all over
the world...
Please see our links below to learn more about our efforts
to support our troops with this campaign, as well as the organizations we have
partnered with that have made this campaign a huge success!!
This year, Shreve Memorial Library has asked to join us in our
Books for Troops campaign. We do not have specific details yet, but we
believe they will be making a substantial donation of books after thier yearly
booksale. I have been in constant contact with Lance Dowd from the San Antonio
branch of Soldier's Angels, and they have also committed to making the trip in
September or October 2012.
Our donation goal for this year will be a
heart-stopping 100,000
items!!
Last year, we sent over 18,000 items with them to San
Antonio, and Lance has told me it cost the organization an estimated
$12,000 in additional postage to ship out all of the
books! So, this year, we are accepting cash donations for Soldier's
Angels, and we will be presenting them with the funds when they come to pick up
this years' donations... I hate to ask people for money, as it seems there
are plenty of hands outstretched these days, but believe me when I tell you,
these guys need every bit of help they can get to continue thier mission!
So, next time you are in one of our stores, please consider a small donation -
All of you have my word as a U.S. Marine that they will receive 100% of
donations made thru our stores. If you wish to make a tax-deductible
donation, please visit thier website from the link below & be sure to
mention that your donation is for the Books for Troops campaign in Shreveport,
LA!!
