CASH/TRADE Policy?

The Thrifty Peanut gives you TWO options to choose from when bringing in used books & media items. We pay CASH for certain types of books & media, and for just about everything else we offer trade credit.

ATTENTION COLLEGE STUDENTS!!
The Thrifty Peanut pays CA$H for YOUR current textbooks!! In most cases, we pay you MORE than the college bookstore will pay for your current textbooks!! And remember - we can also save you $$$ by ordering your textbooks for you! Bring us a list of the ISBN's for the books you need, and see how much we can save you on your next semester...

Option #1 - CASH for your Stuff...

Cash offers are made on a case-by-case basis. The amount of cash you can get for your stuff can vary greatly, and it depends very heavily on what type of books or media items you bring in, and the condition of those items. We do not pay cash for encyclopedias, or old & worn out books. The best types of books to bring us for cash are non-fiction, paranormal, science fiction, and current textbooks. We do accept all other types & genres of books too, so feel free to bring us whatever you may have! We sometimes pay cash for DVD's, Blu-Ray Discs, some VHS videos (classics usually), audio books, music CD's, and Video Games (all types - all platforms).

Option #2 - TRADE CREDIT for your Stuff...

Trading your books & media items is ALWAYS better, and makes your buck go further in our stores! Just bring in what you want to trade, and we always give you 50% of what we think we can sell those items for in your trade account - after that, all you need to know is your name - we keep track of your trade in our computer... If you bring in books, you can trade books, if you bring in DVD's or Video Games, you can trade DVD's or Video Games, and if you bring in audio materials, you can trade those too - everything in our stores is tradeable, and no matter which store you bring your stuff in to, your trade is good at BOTH of our locations! When you bring your stuff in, we figure up your trade in each of the types of media you brought in, then put it in our computer. When you're done shopping, return to the counter and we'll ring up your purchases, apply your trade credit and tell you how much credit you have left, if any...

How Much Store Credit You Can Get for Your Trades

So, how much store credit can you get for your used books?

All books & media items generally earn you store credit equal to 30% to 50% of the amount for which we think we can sell them. The exact amount is assessed on a case-by-case basis, and this is not an exact science. But, the basic idea on trade is this: If we can resell the item, you're going to get some trade credit for it, if you bring in old worn out books that are not resellable, then we can't give you any trade credit.

Store Credit works like a 50% discount, or "Two-For-One" and can be used for up to 50% of a purchase. For instance, if you wish to purchase $10 of used books, and have $7 of credit, you may only use $5 of your credit towards the purchase. In this example, the total cash outlay for this purchase would be $5.35:

$10.00 books purchased

-5.00 store credit (50% of purchase)

+ .45 9% sales tax (Bossier City & State combined)

-------

$5.45 total cash outlay

$2.00 trade credit left on file that you can use on future purchases

Yes, you always have to spend a little cash, otherwise we wouldn't be able to stay in business. Think about it for a moment: Are you able to go into Wal-Mart or the grocery store and get something for nothing? No, you can't, those are businesses just like ours, and businesses have to make money to keep their doors open... The utility companies and our landlord don't accept books as payment, so we have to have some money coming in to keep our doors open. :-) We, of course, accept debit cards, Visa and Mastercard, as well as cash or check.

As many of you are aware, we have over 25 non-profit organizations, such as local area libraries, churches, sports organizations, and private schools that we help raise money. We do this by selling used books and media items they have collected on a 50/50 consignment basis the organizations receive 50% of the revenue generated from these items. To learn more about this, please visit our partnership program page...

In order to trade DVD's or Video Games, you must bring in DVD's or Video Games for trade, and to be able to trade audio items, you must bring in that type of media as well.
